Web site design &replacement IT infrastructure.
A heating and boiler company based in Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire needed an improved website to promote their new renewables showroom. Their existing site was proving too difficult and expensive to maintain, as every change needed to be made by the site host.
They chose Pach Web Solutions to design, host and promote their new web site. Pach provided a WordPress solution which allows them to modify and amend their site as they wish.

Replacement IT infrastructure.
Following the success of their web site, they asked Pach to advise them on their IT infrastructure.
They had three networked Windows XP machines, with one of these acting as a file server to the other two. This proved to be slow and un-reliable, with work getting lost if the serving machine was re-booted or crashed.
Although they had a backup procedure, unfortunately when a situation arose where some files were lost, they found their back -up procedure was not working properly.
Through discussions and our analysis, the main issues identified were:
- The model puts total dependency on one old PC.
- The serving machine ran very slowly to the point where it was very difficult to work on the machine.
- Backups were taking many hours, and proved to be unreliable.
- Data had been lost, and could not be recovered.
- The set up was over-complicated for a small network, and made them dependent on one technician to support them.
- The backup technique used compressed files to a backup device, but in doing so makes them unobtainable without using the associated recovery program.
- There was no documentation as to how the network and systems were structured, and how things like backup should be run.
- There was no emergency plan for backing up, storing and then recovering from a “loss of building” situation.
- All computers on the network are running Windows XP making them all at least 7 years old.
After identifying these issues, Pach built a proposal to implement a new structure and to remove all these issues, this included:
- Replacing one of the desktop PC’s as it was unreliable and was the main accounts machine.
- Install a Netgear NETGEAR ReadyNAS Ultra 2 NAS server. this would hold all data, and share it to all users. no dependency on a single PC would be required. This is a dual disk device, that was RAID 1 which means it has 2 disks which are mirror images of each other, so if one fails, data is not lost.
- Implement a simple “single button” backup procedure.
- Document all network structure and procedures.
- Develop and document a disaster (loss of building) recovery procedure.
